How has the issue of gender superiority evolved in China? The existence of women throughout China’s history was that of total inferiority. As the Chinese society developed women became subordinate to men. Even when death comes, this lesser position was brought out in the discoveries of ancient graves. They showed the wife’s corpse in a bowing position towards her husband. However, the social stature of women in China has grown tremendously compared to 20,000 years ago. In 1949, the Communist government took over China. One of the Communist party’s principles was that of equality for women. This was a big change for the women of China. For the most part, women are given equal rights with men. Especially in large cities. However, this doesn’t apply to 100% of Chinese women. In many areas in China, women are still looked upon as inferior to men. Therefore, the struggle for equality and the end to sex discrimination continues. Since the year 221 BC, the philosophy of China has always been male dominance over women. In the 5th century BC, Chinese philosopher Confucius set three rules for women to follow. The first was â€Å"obedience to the father before marriage, obedience to the husband after marriage, and obedience to the son after the death of the husband.† (Tan p. 11) Chinese history has been traced as far back as 500,000 years ago. However, China has a 4,000 year recorded history. The Chinese lived along the Yellow River 7,000 years ago. They were hunter-gatherers and evidence shows that the society was matriarchal. â€Å"Decent was traced through the women and men lived in the homes of their wives.† (Tan p. 12) Women were respected and all of the children took their mothers’ maiden name. The Importance of Group Work in Education When I was in high school, and one of my teachers would ask us to form groups in order to do something, I would usually roll my eyes. Ironically enough, some of the best work that I put forth and learned from was done in a group work setting. By working with my peers towards a common end, I got things done much quicker and thorough than I ever did on my own. I chose to research group work for this essay, because in my limited experience as a teacher, youth worker, and student, group work proves to be a most effective teaching method; when it is done successfully. To begin, I came up with four questions to ask myself in researching this project: Why is implementing group work such a useful teaching method? How does it best foster critical literacy? How can it work to begin to dissolve the traditional labels of student stereotypes? How does group work best benefit the inclusion path: incorporating both gifted and special needs students? I have only been able to better understand the answers to these questions in the light of my limited experience, student talk, and professional writings. I do plan on being able to establish more of a concrete application of my philosophy within this short intern experience. My philosophy of group work reflects my philosophy on classroom culture. A summary of Devil at My Heels. It’s a memoirist about Louis Zamperini who was a heroic Olympian. It’s also a story of survival as a Japanese POW in World War II. Louis Zamperini was born in Olean, New York, on January 26,1917. He is an Italian. But his family moved to California. Because he couldn’t speak English well so no friends talked to him and always laughed at him. And he became a tough kid. Then his brother, Pete encouraged him to run. So he made his first wise and important decision of his life. He was really good at running, won many prizes. His dream was to attend an Olympic Game. Unfortunately, his whole right lung was full of pus. So he couldn’t run any more. In addition, the 1940 Olympic Game was canceled due to the war. Inevitably, his dream crashed down. It was not long time for him to move into the Expediting Department at Lockheed. He also did well in it. And one day he flew in a B-24 Liberator. Fortune’s wheel didn’t care him. On May 27, he crashed into the Pacific Ocean. He and two other survivors found a raft and waited for rescue. They floated about forty-seven days. They evaded enemy’s attack several times. They killed sharks and ate their livers as food. Waited rainwater to drunk. They were still alive, but captured by the Japanese finally. Following more than two years, he was tortured and humiliated by Japanese. He experienced a lot of dehumanization and torment. Though he endured many torment, he never give up hope. After two years, he backed to home eventually. But he suffered from severe posttraumatic stress disorder. His wife helped him to get through the difficulty. He began to read Bible. He learnt to condone. Ultimately, he condoned all Japanese enemies and held on them.
